Education Network Installation
Education networks face some of the most demanding density requirements of any sector. A single classroom can have thirty or more devices connecting simultaneously, all competing for bandwidth during the same lesson. We design and install education networks that handle peak demand, support BYOD policies, and maintain the separation between staff and student systems that safeguarding and data protection require.
The Reality
Education Network Challenges
High Device Density Per Room
A classroom of thirty students, each with a laptop or tablet, represents one of the most challenging Wi-Fi scenarios in any sector. Not just because of the device count — but because all thirty devices are likely to be active simultaneously, generating similar traffic patterns (accessing the same cloud services, streaming the same content), with a high proportion of video and interactive application traffic.
BYOD Management
Bring Your Own Device policies allow students and staff to connect personal devices — but those devices must be managed differently from school-owned hardware. Personal devices should connect to a network with appropriate content filtering and access controls, but without the ability to access administrative systems, staff resources, or other students' devices. This requires VLAN-based segmentation and a network access control strategy.
Content Filtering and Safeguarding
Schools have a legal duty of care regarding the content accessible to students over the school network. Effective content filtering must apply consistently to all student devices regardless of connection method — wired or wireless — and must be maintained as filtering policies evolve. This is typically delivered as a combination of DNS filtering, firewall rules, and where applicable, transparent proxy.
Staff, Student, and Guest Segmentation
Staff systems containing sensitive data — HR records, student assessment data, financial information — must be properly separated from student and visitor networks. This is not just about access controls at the application level; the network architecture itself must ensure that student devices cannot reach the network segments on which administrative systems reside.
Summer Installation Windows
Unlike most commercial environments where installation can be phased around working hours, education networks must largely be delivered during holiday periods — half terms, Easter, and above all the summer break. This concentrates installation work into narrow windows and requires careful project management to ensure the network is fully operational before the new academic year begins.
How We Help
Our Solutions for Education
High-Density Wi-Fi with Cloud Controller
We design classroom Wi-Fi using enterprise access points rated for high concurrent device loads, with access point placement optimised for coverage and capacity rather than just signal strength. Cloud-managed platforms from Cisco Meraki or Aruba allow your IT team to monitor and manage every access point from a single dashboard, push policy updates remotely, and receive alerts when devices go offline.
VLANs and Network Access Control
We implement multi-VLAN network architectures that place staff systems, student devices, server infrastructure, and guest Wi-Fi in properly isolated network segments. Access between segments is controlled by firewall policy, ensuring that students can reach the internet and sanctioned cloud services without any possibility of reaching administrative systems.
Flexible Summer Scheduling
We have extensive experience delivering education installations within summer holiday windows. Our project management approach ensures work is properly phased — cabling first, then active equipment, then configuration and testing — with a complete commissioning programme before handover to the school in time for the new academic year. We work with your facilities team to manage access and minimise disruption to any holiday activities running on site.
Ongoing Managed Services
Education IT teams are often stretched across a broad range of responsibilities. Our managed service offering provides a network monitoring and support layer that reduces the burden on in-house IT staff — handling network health monitoring, firmware updates, and first-line response to connectivity issues so your team can focus on end-user support and strategic projects.
